We have launched a £70k crowdfunding plea to support part of the planned regeneration of the Dell play park.
Our volunteer group are hoping to secure community backing to fund a bespoke castle-themed tower with large slide which will be located on part of the Dell’s upper embankment.
In the region of £300,000 is needed for the full park plans to be brought to life. Chepstow Town Council have pledged £100,000, with a further £25,000 secured thanks to Monmouthshire County Council. In addition to crowdfunding efforts, we will also be submitting an application to try and secure lottery funding for the remainder of the money required.
If successful, we hope that the build could possibly begin later this year.
Vicky Burston-Yates, Chair of FDPC, said: “The castle-themed slide will be the jewel in the crown of our new park – just a stone's throw from our town’s real beloved castle. Whether it’s pennies or pounds, any donation will be gratefully received to help us realise this fairytale feature of the park!
“We’ve already made some great progress in securing funding, but we can’t rest on our laurels and the lottery application certainly isn’t a forgone conclusion. We have a busy few months ahead to try and secure the funding required.”
Plans for Chepstow’s new destination park, which have been designed based on extensive community feedback, were approved by Monmouthshire County Council in February of this year.
The new destination park would see the removal of the existing outdated play equipment to make way for a modern and more natural play environment, complementing the historic port wall that runs alongside the park. New accessible play equipment would be installed for children under six and aged seven to 12, including:
Bespoke wooden boat
Nest swing and toddler swings
Accessible roundabout
Play boulders
Balance trail.
New pathways, seating and wildlife planting would also feature.
